The Prophet (salalahu alahi wasalam) used to wear it if I can recall, not for medical purposes of course, but it showed that it was permissible for men as well. In Egypt they have what he used for wearing it in the museum. Allah knows best.
Abu Sa id (ra) said that Rasullilah (salalahi alahi wasalam) said, Whoever says: Radeetu billahi rabban, wa bil-Islaami deenan, wa bi-Muhammadin rasoolan Jannah becomes obligatory for him (to enter). [Abu-Dawud] - Best said in Morning and Evening with "Nabiyan wa rasoolan"
Just wondering because i wear it and always thought it was sunna but i,m not quiet sure.It could just be cultural for instance me as a pathan we use it. But then again some of my friends(muslims) consider it a women /female thing and they tend to be non-pathans. so brothers/sisters if it is sunna help me out, providing evidence. salaams http://www.central-mosque.com/sunnah...lByProphet.htm
The US FDA has an alert out for Surma/Kohl because of the high levels of lead found in such products. I'm not sure how to tell between those with lead and without lead so I've stopped steam cleaner using it. Check the following link about the lead alert: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/download...ics-032007.pdf Google 'surma lead' for further info...

Shaykh, Surma which contains lead can be easily distinguished from the one that doesn't by carrying out a small and easy test. The one that contains lead, if put in water will sink to the bottom. The one that doesn't contain lead will always float on the surface. Nowadays it's really hard to find pure surma.
Where does one aquire the 'pure' stuff from?? Anyone know any genuine suppliers of the 'itr', ood( wrong spelling, dont know how to spell it,you guys know what i'm talking about, right?), in the UK?? Some people love it,some dont, but its a nice scent which grows better the more longer it's been put on. A tiny drop normally is enough and the scent will stay for a few days.

In the UK it's quite hard to find. There was a shop near Baker St in London but I can't remember where but if you consider steam cleaner the fact a small bottle of White Oud in Saudi costs at least 100, you're steam cleaner going to have to fork out alot of money in the UK if you want the 'pure stuff'. Check these out although I wouldn't personally buy expensive itr online. http://www.oudh.co.uk/Oudh_list.htm steam cleaner Dehn Al Oudh Cambodi steam cleaner 1975 190 for 3ml!!!! although a tiny speck of it would out last most itr.
I dont know abt this lead business. I always buy surma from shops here and back home aswell, never bothered checking lead content or what not - just use it. Seems ok, alhamdulillah. Hashmi Surmah is gud.
